There are many Accounting Software Packages out there promoting themselves as ready for Making Tax Digital. However, what is the right choice for you, your business, the Book-keeper and most importantly the Accountant is the issue that needs to be addressed.
Having
dealt with a number of desktop packages over the last 30 years I
have experienced a number of different approaches to the same
mundane task of maintaining accounting records. The improvements
over those years has made accounting easier and mistakes have come
down over the years.
Modern
softwares now integrate directly with the business bank accounts
and the figures and descriptions are now downloaded into the
software systems.
So what software do we recommend, that depends on you.

Worked in Accountancy since 1990 Started in a small firm doing manual accounts, Good 'ole Extended Trial Balances . Progressed to a more lively firm, using computerised systems (Yes accountants are in the 21st century) Came across Sage (DOS version) for the first time. Soon learnt how much trouble a client can get into when they understand neither the accounts they are trying to prepare nor the package they are using. Gained a reputation for sorting out 'Sage' clients. Having learned to 'sort out' sage based clients this skill set was transferred to the QuickBooks packages and I joined the 'Professional Advisors Programme'. I now assist a range of clients with basic issues on both packages on a regular basis.
Started my own firm on a part
time basis in January 2003 from an office in Molly Millars Lane,
Wokingham. In April 2008 I started building a 5m by 3m
'shed/office' and moved into the shed in October 2008, taking the
wife with me.
